Daniel & the Lion’s Den

Based on Daniel chapter 6

Characters: Daniel, King, Satraps 1-5

Props: King’s crown/robe, stuffed animals, sign to mark Lion’s Den, binoculars for satraps

Daniel: Here are the reports, King Darius!

King Darius: Thank you, Daniel! You are one of my best workers, I think I will put you in charge of my whole kingdom!

Daniel: Wow, thanks!

(Daniel walks off stage)

Satrap 1: Did you hear that? The king wants to put Daniel in charge of everything!

Satrap 2: That’s not fair! We work just as hard as him.

Satrap 3: Ugh, Daniel is the WORST! I hate him for getting the promotion that WE deserve!

Satrap 4: He thinks he’s better than us! Always praying to that silly God of his!

Satrap 5: I know, I wish we could just get rid of him forever!

Satrap 1: I’ve got a plan, listen to this!

(Satraps huddle together to whisper, then walk over to King Darius)

Satrap 2: Heeeyyyy, King Darius! We’ve had a great idea of how to honor you!

Satrap 3: Yes! We think you are SO great- you are like a god!

Satrap 4: So everyone should pray to YOU!

Satrap 1: And anyone who prays to ANY other God will be THROWN INTO A DEN OF LIONS

King Darius: Wow, that does make me feel important! I’ll sign it!

All Satraps: Hooray!

 

                (Daniel to one side, in his room. Satraps sit to one side with binoculars to watch him)

Daniel: I know there was a law made that we can only pray to King Darius, but I will not cease bowing before my God three times a day in praise.

                (Daniel kneels down to pray. After a few seconds, the satraps jump out)

All Satraps: AHA! Caught ya!

                (Satraps drag Daniel before the king)

 

Satrap 2: King Darius! We found this criminal praying to his God!

Satrap 3: This is against your new law, king Darius!

Satrap 4: What was the punishment for that, again?

Satrap 5: THROWN INTO A DEN OF LIONS!!

King Darius: No, not Daniel! He was my faithful servant!

Satrap 1: Sorry, King Darius, it’s the law!

King Darius: I’m sorry, Daniel! May your God who you faithfully serve deliver you from the lions.

                (Satraps joyfully push Daniel into the lion’s den- the conference room. Make roaring sounds, throw stuffed animals out, etc)

 

King Darius: I have not slept this whole night, worrying about Daniel. I can’t wait another minute- we have to go see if he survived!

                (King Darius runs to door of lion’s den)

King Darius: Daniel, has your God who you faithfully serve delivered you from the lions?

Daniel (from in the lion’s den): Yes, King Darius! God sent angels to shut the lion’s mouths.

King Darius: Hooray! Get Daniel out of that den of lions!

                Daniel comes out of Lion’s Den

Daniel: Thank you, King Darius!

King Darius: You shouldn’t have been in there at all- clearly everyone should pray to your God! Who was it who decided to make that silly law, anyway?

                (Satraps all back away nervously)

King Darius: Oh, right- the Satraps! Throw THEM into the lion’s den!

                (Satraps thrown into conference room- roaring and animals commences)

King Darius: Much better. Now, how about you and I go pray to God together?

Daniel: Yes, please!
