Moses & the Israelites skit

Moses & the Israelites skit

Cast: Moses, God, Pharaoh, Israelites, pharaoh’s army (played by helpers if needed)

Prop crew needed to do the plagues.

Props: Pharaoh crown, Moses staff, cup of red liquid, green paper for frogs, black confetti in two piles, animals- (stuffed animals, toys, cut outs from a nativity, etc), white balls of paper for hail, red face paint crayon or red marker, small brown confetti, blue cloth for water, black cloth for darkness, red strips of paper for Israelites

Note about props: Set out props with labels so prop crew knows which ones come next. I recommend labelling them 1-10.

Israelites: We have been in slavery for SO long! We are SO tired! Can’t we just leave already!?!

God: I have heard your cries, my people, and I will set you free. Moses!

Moses: Yes, God?

God: Go to Pharaoh and tell him to let the people go.

Moses: That’s your plan? Just say ‘let them go’?

God: Yeah. It’s a good plan!

Moses: Ok, whatever you say, God!

(Moses walks over to Pharaoh)

Moses: God says Let my people go!

Pharaoh: No!

      (Moses walks back to God)

Moses: He said no. Now what?

God: Now I show them my power and might! A plague upon the people! No! TEN plagues upon the people! Then Pharaoh will let them go!

Moses: Ok, God. What will the plagues be?

God: Well, the first will be Plague of Blood!

(helper hands Pharaoh a glass of red liquid)

Moses: Now will you let them go?

Pharaoh: No!

God: Then a Plague of Frogs!

(helpers throw crumpled green paper as frogs at Pharaoh)

Moses: Now will you let them go?

Pharaoh: No!

God: Plague of Gnats

(helpers sprinkle little tiny black confetti on Pharaoh)

God: A Plague of Flies

(helpers sprinkle more little tiny black confetti on Pharaoh)

Moses: Now will you let them go?

Pharaoh: Yes!

Moses: Really!?

Pharaoh: No!

God: Ok, then! A Plague on the Livestock

(helpers walk by with livestock cut outs or throw stuffed animals on the scene)

God: A Plague of Boils

(Helper draws a few dots on pharaoh’s arm with face paint crayon or marker. Pharaoh scratches like crazy)

Moses: Now will you let them go?

Pharaoh: No!

God: I have no choice but to send a Plague of Hail

(helpers throw white balled up paper at pharaoh)

God: And a Plague of Locusts

(helpers throw small brown confetti at pharaoh)

God: Then a Plague of Darkness

(helpers throw a black cloth over pharaoh’s head)

Moses: Now will you let them go?

Pharaoh: (from under the cloth) No!

(then remove cloth from head)

God: Ok, Moses- this will be the last one- the biggest one. But you need to get the Israelites to protect themselves. This plague will kill the Firstborn of every person and animal. If Israel wants to be protected, they must slaughter a lamb and paint the blood on the doorpost. Only a home with the blood of the lamb will be spared from the angel of death.

(Israelites all hold up red strips of paper)

Pharaoh: Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! My son! You, Israelites, your God has done this! Get out, now, before something even worse happens! Away, all of you!

(Israelites all run, with Moses at the front. The run up to helpers waving blue cloth to represent water)

Pharaoh: Wait a second, why did I let them go? I need them to stay here as slaves! I’ll send my army to bring them back!

         (army runs after Israelites)

Israelites: Oh, no! The army is coming behind us, and the sea is in front of us! What will we do!?

Moses: I’ve got this! (raises staff, brings it down again)

(helpers with water move the water out of the way to make a path)

Israelites: Woah! Dry ground! Let’s go! (Israelites run across the water)

(Army tries to follow. Helpers throw the water over them and they dramatically die.)

Moses & Israelites: God has set us free! Praise to God Almighty! Alleluia! Amen!
