Samuel anoints David as King

Skit- From Shepherd to King- Samuel anoints David as King

Roles: Samuel Jesse David Kids 1-7

Samuel: Greetings! I come in the name of the Lord!

Jesse: Welcome to our home. What have you come to do here?

Samuel: God told me to anoint a new king!

Jesse: That’s cool. But why are you at OUR house?

Samuel: God also told me that the new king will be chosen from among your kids!

Jesse: Awesome!! I’ve got a whole bunch of kids! Which one do you want?

Samuel: I’m not sure yet. Let me meet the kids and God will tell me which one to choose.

Kid 1: Well hello! You should make ME the king! I am the oldest, so I’m good at bossing people around.

Samuel: This isn’t the king.

Kid 2: It’s definitely me! Remember, first is the worst, second is the best.

Samuel: This isn’t the king either.

Kid 3: It wouldn’t be either of those dorks. It’s clearly me! I’m so much cooler than them, it’s obviously me.

Samuel: Nope.

Kid 4: I should be the king! Look how tall and strong I am! (flex and show off)

Samuel: Not you, either.

Kid 5: Choosing me to be the king would be prudent. I am much wiser than these foolish plebians.

Samuel: I’ll have to pass on that one, thanks.

Kid 6: Hey, Dude! Let me be king! I’m super fun, and I could make this the funnest kingdom ever, WOOOO!

Samuel: Sorry, dude, it’s not you.

Kid 7: So I have to be the king, then? Whatever, I don’t really care. The whole thing is stupid.

Samuel: Ok, not this one either. Is that all of them? Don’t you have any other kids?!?

Jesse: No. Well, yes- there’s just David.

Samuel: Well, bring him out.

Jesse: Well, he’s in the field, watching the sheep.

Samuel: I’ll wait.

(They stand around awkwardly for a minute. David walks in)

David: Hey, everyone!

Samuel: This is him, God’s chosen! He will be the king!

Kids 1-7: What! Hey! Why him and not us?!?

Samuel: People look at the outer appearance, but God looks at the heart. God has seen David’s heart, and he is faithful to God. He will be the king.

David: Praise be to God!
